Category-level vs Item-level — the difference
Category-level tells you how much inventory you have in dollars, grouped by category (beer, tobacco, grocery, etc.). It’s what an accountant, bank, or insurance company needs.
Item-level tells you exactly what you have, product by product. It takes longer and costs more, but it’s the only way to see shrink by SKU or hand a buyer a full item list.
