Inventory service
for auto parts retailers.
Part number accuracy, core charge tracking, and multi-location consistency across Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.
Precision down to the part number.
Auto parts inventory is high-value, high-specificity, and unforgiving of error. A misread part number costs a customer relationship — and a missed core charge costs real money. Our crews understand the difference between a brake caliper and a caliper bracket, between OEM and aftermarket, between a billable core and one that’s already been returned.
Every Apex count includes part-number-level verification, dedicated core tracking, and reconciliation against your DMS or POS to surface phantom stock, missing cores, and supersession errors. Whether you run a neighborhood parts store, a regional jobber network, or a multi-location chain — the methodology stays consistent so your data stays comparable.
Auto parts capabilities.
Four things that make Apex different for parts retailers.
Part number & fitment accuracy
Character-by-character verification during scanning. Mismatches flagged. Crossover parts and supersession surfaced so phantom stock doesn’t accumulate in your DMS.
Core charge tracking
Cores tracked separately from primary inventory in their own report. On-hand quantities, cores due back to suppliers, and core float reconciliation — the most common shrink category, handled properly.
Multi-location consistency
One methodology, one file standard, one reporting format across every location. Critical for chains tracking shrink, supersession, and core float across the network.
DMS / POS integration
Exports formatted for DST Pro, AutoFluent, Activant Eagle, Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, and other parts management systems. Drops in cleanly — part number, location, quantity, core status, all the fields you need.
Integrates with parts systems.
Apex exports cleanly into the DMS and parts management systems auto parts retailers actually use.
Auto parts inventory, answered.
How do you handle core charges during an auto parts inventory?
Cores are tracked separately from primary inventory in their own report. Apex documents on-hand core quantities, identifies cores due back to suppliers, and reconciles against your core float balance. This prevents the most common auto parts shrink issue — phantom cores that should have been returned but weren’t.
Can you reconcile against my DMS or parts management system?
Yes. Apex regularly works with DST Pro, AutoFluent, Activant Eagle, Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, and other parts management systems. The final export drops into your DMS without manual reformatting — including part number, location, quantity, and core status fields.
Do you verify part numbers against fitment guides?
Apex crews verify part numbers character-by-character during scanning and flag mismatches. We don’t independently re-verify fitment against ACES/PIES catalogs, but we do surface part numbers that appear miscataloged or duplicated — common with crossover parts and supersession.
How long does an auto parts inventory take?
A single-location parts store with 15,000-30,000 SKUs typically takes 10 to 16 hours, often split overnight. Larger jobbers and multi-location chains run two crews or split across days. Apex coordinates scheduling so the count doesn’t block customer pick-ups or daily commercial deliveries.
Can you count multi-location auto parts chains consistently?
Yes — multi-location consistency is one of our specialties. Apex coordinates one count methodology, one file standard, and one reporting format across every location so your data is comparable. Critical for chains tracking shrink, supersession, and core float across the network. See our full service list for more.
